Brentford striker Yoane Wissa took a page out of Alexander Isak's playbook this weekend by releasing a statement on his desire to leave the club with Newcastle United thought to be his likely destination.

While Wissa didn't mention Newcastle by name in his statement, he did say that a Premier League club has made offers, and he wants the move.

Like Isak, Wissa downed tools this summer to force a move and has now made his feelings public with a statement.

Wissa's statement was a lot more detailed and slightly less inflammatory than Isak's, but it's a sad indictment of the modern game that this is where we are now with players releasing statements to try and force a move.

Brentford remain steadfast despite Yoane Wissa's statement

Despite going public, though, Brentford remain unmoved, according to journalist Mark Douglas on X.

"My understanding is that, despite Yoane Wissa's bombshell statement, Brentford stance on his sale HASN'T changed.

"It's been the case from the start they needed a replacement in before considering a sale. Still holds. #brentfordfc #nufc
"Problem is what constitutes a reasonable offer? Is it reasonable if it leaves a club in the lurch? £40m might be reasonable on July 1 but not on August 30.

"Wissa in same boat as Isak - playing waiting game. No decent club is going to fold off the back of an Instagram statement"

Brentford want £65 million for Yoane Wissa

The Brentford area is thought to be demanding £65 million for Wissa, which is about £20 million more than Newcastle is willing to pay. We understand that that's Brentford's valuation, but there is no way that a player who turns 29 next week and has one year left on his contract is worth £65 million to Newcastle.

Jorgen Strand Larsen remains an option, however, despite a new striker incoming at Wolves, the Midlands club are not keen on selling.

There's just over 24 hours left of the window, so we'll see where we end up at 7 pm on Monday.
