Newcastle United are thought to be interested in taking Brentford's Yoane Wissa off their hands this summer as they look to bolster their attacking options.

After seemingly missing out on Hugo Ekitike, Newcastle have reportedly turned their attention to Brentford's 28-year-old marksman.

Wissa had an outstanding campaign for Brentford last season, bagging 19 goals in the Premier League, which was the highest number of goals scored by a non-penalty taker last season.

It was originally thought Brentford were asking £50 million for Wissa, but a report in Nottingham Forest News claims they would accept less than £40 million, making him a very attractive proposition.

Newcastle will not be the favourites to sign Yoane Wissa

While Forest have already tried their luck in January and again this summer, they aren't the only competition Newcastle faces, with Tottenham Hotspur also circling. They could be the favourites to land the DR Congo international, according to TalkSPORT, after Thomas Frank left Brentford to manage Spurs.

“Wissa is pushing to leave Brentford but his preferred option would be to join Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

“The 28-year-old is also wanted by Nottingham Forest, who had a bid for him instantly rejected last week. They also submitted a £25m offer for him in January which was turned down.”

Yoane Wissa could still remain at Brentford

The other wrinkle is the ongoing saga with Bryan Mbeumo. Manchester United are still at the table for the Brentford winger, and it's thought that after losing Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and Thomas Frank to Spurs, Brentford would only be willing to part with one of their main goal threats.

If Mbeumo moves to Man United, Yoane Wissa is much more likely to stay at Brentford, and if Wissa leaves, Mbeumo is likely to stay. So if anyone is genuinely keen on Wissa, they're going to have to act fast.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have also been linked with Benjamin Sesko as another alternative.

Things are getting spicy in this window, finally.
