'He's a little bit worried': Eddie Howe gives nervous update on Bruno Guimaraes as Newcastle United captain hobbled off pitch last night
It was a night of celebration for Newcastle United last night as they picked up only their third away win of the season in the Premier League at the expense of a woeful Tottenham Hotspur side.
The scenes in front of the fans at full-time were reminiscent of those reserved for huge occasions like qualifying for the Champions League or winning the Carabao Cup, with Eddie Howe being pushed to the fore to celebrate with the fans.
It was so good that we almost forgot that Bruno Guimaraes hobbled off the pitch in some discomfort a few minutes before full-time.
Bruno had a moment where he signalled to the bench that he had a problem but then decided to play on, only to go down heavily a couple of minutes later, bringing an early end to his game.
Eddie Howe isn't sure what to think of Bruno Guimaraes' injury
Eddie Howe was asked for an update in his post-match press conference, with everyone hoping that it was just a bad cramp for the captain, but it looks like we may have to suffer without Bruno again.
“I’m not sure how he is, but I think he’s a little bit worried.
“He’s said he’s never had a problem with his hamstrings before, so is it cramp or was it a muscle problem?
“It probably feels like it was more of an injury to me, but let’s wait and see.
“We’re trying to stay positive at this moment.”
We really can't afford to lose Bruno Guimaraes again
We've just won a game and now we're facing the prospect of losing a player who is so important we've never won a game when he's not been involved. How Newcastle United is that?
Let's hope that it was just more on the side of cramp and it was an overreaction from Bruno.
The fact that he was still limping when he pushed Eddie Howe and Jacob Ramsey towards the crowd isn't a good sign, though.
