Newcastle United continue to make moves in the transfer market after signing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

The Magpies have also placed a record-breaking bid for France striker Hugo Ekitike , which has been rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt, but the deal is not dead yet and Newcastle are expected to return with improved terms.

Meanwhile, the club are also working on an exit, and it now looks as though Sean Longstaff's time at his boyhood club is coming to an end.

The 27-year-old signed a new deal last year to preserve his value and then asked the club not to sell him in January so he could be part of the team's Carabao Cup run, ultimately resulting in Longstaff collecting a winner's medal as Newcastle lifted their first trophy in 56 years.

Sean Longstaff looks to be off to Leeds United

Longstaff has been linked to Leeds all summer, and after four attempts, Newcastle have now accepted a bid from the Premier League newcomers with Fabrizio Romano giving it a 'here we go' on X on Wednesday.

"🚨⚪️ Newcastle have authorized Sean Longstaff to undergo medical at Leeds United, agreement sealed.

"#LUFC set to pay fee in excess of £12m for Longstaff who said yes to the project in June.

Everyone's a winner

This feels like a good move for all parties. Newcastle receive a 'pure profit' fee for an academy graduate, Leeds get a 27-year-old Premier League-proven midfielder with Champions League experience for a very reasonable fee, and Sean Longstaff moves to a side in which he's way more likely to find himself getting minutes on the pitch.

It's always bittersweet seeing an academy graduate leave the club, especially one that has been in and around the first-team for so long, but the reality is that Longstaff was tumbling down the pecking order like a slinky at Newcastle and a move was best for all involved.

We wish Longy the very best of luck at Leeds. Just, you know, don't come back to haunt us next season. Cheers.
