'Here we go': Newcastle United strike £40m agreement as player heads to Tyneside for medical
Newcastle United are expecting the arrival of Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey today to complete his medical ahead of a £40 million move.
The former England youth international will become Newcastle's fourth first-team addition of the summer when the deal goes through.
If the Magpies are quick, they could get Ramsey registered before 12:00pm tomorrow, which would allow him to be included in the matchday squad on Saturday so he could potentially face his old club.
The move has happened quite quickly, but while there were reports that Ramsey was in the North East yesterday, Fabrizio Romano has said on X today that he will travel up now that the deal has been agreed.
Romano posted about Newcastle and didn't mention Liverpool
Posting on X earlier this afternoon, Romano gave his trademark 'here we go' to the deal.
"🚨⚪️⚫️ EXCLUSIVE: Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle, here we go! Agreement for £40m fee from Aston Villa.
"Ramsey agreed on personal terms and travels for medical at #NUFC right now.
"Ramsey strongly wanted Newcastle and deal now done."
Jacob Ramsey is going to be the backup for Joelinton
We have to give credit where it's due. Romano didn't manage to twist this into a post about how this somehow pushes Alexander Isak closer to Liverpool. They must not have paid for this one.
Ramsey is seen by Eddie Howe as the long-term replacement for Joelinton on the left side of the midfield three, which leaves the 24-year-old with some pretty big shoes to fill.
We just hope that he will be able to keep himself fit and available all season, as there is going to be a lot of scope for rotation during this campaign.
