It is now official. Nick Woltemade is a Newcastle United player, as the 6'6" German striker's arrival has been announced by the club.

The 23-year-old, who finished as top scorer in this summer's U21s European Championships, bagging six goals in five games, joins Newcastle from Bundesliga side Stuttgart for £69 million.

That represents quite a tidy profit for the German outfit who only signed Woltemade last summer on a free transfer from Werder Bremen.

Nick Woltemade now surpasses Alexander Isak as Newcastle United's most expensive signing, which is ironic given that he's here to replace Sir Twistsalot.

'I'm not a typical 6'6" guy' - Nick Woltemade

In his announcement video posted by the club on social media, Woltemade mentions the Newcastle fans several times and also highlights his qualities.

"I want to play at the highest level. Newcastle fans are the highest fans, the best fans in England and I'm excited to play here.

"I'm not a typical 6'6" guy. I like to dribble, I like to have the ball at my feet. I like to be creative. I know my qualities. Now it's a different league, I have to work for it again.

"I love traditional clubs, now here I am at one of the best clubs and one of the best fans in England."

Newcastle fans have to wait for Woltemade's debut

Newcastle fans now face an agonising wait to see their new man in action after missing the Friday deadline to register him in time to play at Elland Road later today.

An international break follows this weekend's round of fixtures, which means we'll not see Woltemade in action until the Wolverhampton Wanderers game on 13th September.

Still, we can rest a little bit now, knowing that we have that top-class striker on board. Welcome to Newcastle, Nick Woltemade.
