'He'd take that': Journalist now makes outrageous claim about Eddie Howe and the summer transfer window for Newcastle United
Opinions are like ... you know what, we can't finish that well-known quote without getting our wrists slapped, but you know what it is, and just in case you don't, it ends with 'everybody's got one, but some stink worse than others'.
Everybody around Newcastle United right now has their own take on the summer transfer business. We'd be absolutely gobsmacked if you could find someone who was positive about it, mind.
Newcastle have missed out on target after target, and all the while, their star player has been angling to leave the club. It has been an unmitigated disaster.
The arrival of Anthony Elanga alleviated the stress for a brief period, but since then, nobody else has come in, although Aaron Ramsdale is just about through the door.
Lee Ryder believes Eddie Howe would take the window closing after signing Aaron Ramsdale and being content with a job done
The Alexander Isak saga has dominated the headlines, and everybody is sick to the back teeth of it. Meanwhile, Eddie Howe, who wanted players in at the start of the window, is still waiting for new arrivals to take the team to the next level.
Newcastle return to the Champions League next season, and if our last spell in that competition taught us anything, it's that we need a bulky squad to compete. Given that we've lost Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Sean Longstaff since then and added Anthony Elanga and Will Osula, we certainly aren't better equipped right now.
So it's absolute madness that The Chronicle's Lee Ryder has suggested that Eddie Howe would take the transfer window closing after getting Aaron Ramsdale in.
"Get Ramsdale done, you've got Elanga - I think if you offered Eddie Howe the transfer window to shut right now, he might take that."
Hot take of the summer winner: Lee Ryder
If Eddie Howe would take the transfer window closing now purely because it means we get to keep Isak then he's clearly not the master tactician we all think he is.
It would be absolutely insane to think that Newcastle has improved enough with the additions of Elanga and Ramsdale that they would be ready to compete on four fronts next season.
We've seen some hot takes this summer from frustrated fans, hell, I've probably dropped a couple myself in my frustrated ramblings, but Ryder gets the award.
