There are no two ways about it, Newcastle United are going to have to be more ruthless when it comes to moving players on.

Under Eddie Howe, there's been an odd reluctance to let players go, even when all common sense suggests it would be the right thing to do.

The Magpies ended up in a financial pickle in the summer, scrapping to find money to avoid being sanctioned for breaching PSR and, as a result, had to green-light two transfers they'd rather not have had to do.

If Newcastle had been better at moving players on, they'd likely have avoided this mess ahead of time, but you live and learn.

Miggy is determined to stay at Newcastle

Newcastle have been trying to shift Miguel Almiron for a year now

As easy as it is for us to sit here and say what the club should have done, sometimes it's simply not as simple as it may look from the outside.

Miguel Almiron is a prime example of that. Newcastle have tried to shift the Paraguayan for two transfer windows now, and between the club's reluctance to accept a lower offer and the player's insistence on staying at the club, the dance will continue in the January window, with River Plate expected to make a solid offer for the 30-year-old.

Miggy's Agent, Daniel Campos has been speaking about the situation to Radio La Red (via TyC Sports) and he has highlighted what needs to happen for Miggy to actually leave Newcastle.

Daniel Campos says Miguel Almiron still wants to stay at Newcastle

“Although Miguel isn’t happy with the minutes he has in England, he wants to stay and fight at Newcastle.

“The coach always supported him. When he asked for something, he asked him to not leave. It must be a tactical or momentary issue.

“He has a valid contract. His contract was renewed last year for three more [years], and with the new owners of the club. Miguel is not desperate for money or to do crazy things. If there is an offer from any team, we will go through the competent channels.

“The clause, except for the Brazilians, is unaffordable [for South American clubs]. The problem is also the contract he has.”

So, Eddie Howe needs to stop being so bloody supportive, Miguel Almiron needs to grow some ruddy ambition, and Newcastle need to realise he's not worth what they're asking.

We're going to be stuck with him forever, aren't we?
