'He still needs': Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann weighs in on Newcastle United's £69m summer signing
Nick Woltemade seems to be a hot topic of discussion in Germany right now, with Bayern Munich board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge branding Newcastle United 'idiots' for paying what they did.
Bayern Munich struggled all summer to get a deal done for Nick Woltemade, and then Newcastle swooped in and paid over the odds late in the window to get a deal done.
It sounds like sour grapes to us, but Rummenigge didn't hold back when discussing Newcastle's acquisition as reported in The Telegraph.
“I can only congratulate those in Stuttgart that they – and now I will use inverted commas – found an idiot who will pay that much money. Because we would have certainly not done that in Munich.
“We should not meet any demand to make someone happy, especially those financiers in Stuttgart.”
Eddie Howe isn't worried about Nick Woltemade's price tag despite criticism
Eddie Howe today dismissed Rummenigge's claims that Newcastle overpaid by stating that the market dictated prices.
Thankfully, with two goals to his name already, Woltemade has already started to repay the faith the club have shown in him.
Meanwhile, the boss of the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann, has praised the start the 23-year-old has made at Newcastle.
Nick Woltemade has a 'few steps to take' before properly fitting in at Newcastle according to Julien Nagelsmann
As reported by GOAL, however, Nagelesmann is aware that Woltemade is not yet the finished article.
“Sure, he’s scored two headers now, which was also good and important for him. I think it’s important that you make a good impression when you have such a price tag.
“He still has a few steps to take within the team. He still needs to find his perfect fit.”
We're sure it won't take Woltemade too long to find a rhythm that works at Newcastle, and his teammates will find it along with him. However, we could do with it all clicking sooner rather than later.
