Newcastle United continue to barrel towards an epic failure of a transfer window as 11pm deadline grows ever nearer.
It's not just the frustration caused by the games being played by Steve Parish and Crystal Palace over priority target Marc Guehi, but there's also been an inability to move on players who many expected to have left the club by now.
While Ryan Fraser somehow remains a Newcastle player despite his move to Southampton being an open goal at the start of the window, it's arguably not even the worst example of the ineptitude shown this summer.
After failing to move him on in January, it seemed a given that Miguel Almiron would be sold this summer.
Newcastle need to upgrade their right-wing options and it became apparent that the only way they'd do that is if they moved on Miguel Almiron first. Fulham had been credited with a last-minute interest after failed moves to Saudi Arabia and Charlotte of the MLS.
Now with just hours left to go, journalist Ben Jacobs has issued the update we were all expecting on TalkSPORT this morning (h/t Geordie Boot Boys)
“I am told it will not happen. He stays at Newcastle United.”
With all due respect to Miggy, we should have moved on from the Paraguayan two seasons ago but he bought himself a stay of execution with that amazing purple patch in October of our Champions League-attaining season.
Unfortunately, he's never been able to recreate that type of form ever since. In fact, he's not even had a single game that comes close to how well he was performing then.
Jacob Murphy appears to have jumped over Almiron in the pecking order but that's hardly an upgrade.
