At this point, Newcastle United fans must be glad that football pundits and public opinion don't decide who takes over the role of England manager.

Eddie Howe's name is at the top of many a list for who should replace Gareth Southgate at the England helm with pundits and journalists all pointing in the Newcastle boss's direction.

The bookies have him as favourite for a reason, but Newcastle fans, who would be all for Eddie Howe being England manager were it not for the fact that he's our manager, are terrified that Howe won't be able to resist the call of The FA.

England boss is such an iconic role that it would be hard for any English manager to turn down, but there are a myriad of reasons why Howe could refuse this year.

David Seaman wants to see Eddie Howe manage England

Former England star David Seaman has outlined one such reason while backing the 46-year-old for the role to Betway (via DAZN).

"If I had to choose the next England manager I would go for Eddie Howe, because he’s used to dealing with Premier League players. He seems to tick all the boxes for an England manager, and he would have the respect of the players for what he has achieved at Newcastle.

"The FA would have to tempt him away from his club, and it’s tough because that day-to-day life of club management is a big buzz. I would imagine every English manager’s dream is to manage England, though, and if you get the opportunity, there aren’t many that would turn it down."

Eddie Howe is earning more than the England job pays

We don't believe that Howe is ready to leave behind the day-to-day hustle of club management, he's too much of a grafter and would be lost with so much downtime.

Not to mention the fact that Howe had apparently signed a new deal last year that put him on way more money than Gareth Southgate was earning.

Despite all the calls for Howe to succeed Southgate, and how tempting we know it must be, we still firmly believe that Eddie Howe will be Newcastle's boss when the new season gets underway next month.
