Harvey Barnes says he is 'buzzing' for Newcastle United teammate after impressive Champions League debut
Newcastle United cruised to victory at St James' Park tonight against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
The 3-0 scoreline was more than a fair reflection of how the game played out, with the Magpies keeping the Dutch side at arm's length all night while finally showing some cutting edge up front.
Yoane Wissa had a fantastic night on his Champions League debut, scoring after just eight minutes and then turning provider on 30 minutes for Anthony Gordon.
After such a difficult start to his time at Newcastle, particularly after pushing so hard to get the move, it's great to see him finally on the pitch and amongst the goals, especially in the Champions League, which was a huge motivation for him wanting the move from Brentford.
Harvey Barnes empathised with Yoane Wissa after a difficult start at Newcastle
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Harvey Barnes, who bagged Newcastle's third goal of the night, was asked about Wissa's performance and the former Leicester man admitted he was buzzing for him after being injured for so long when he signed.
"Really pleased for him. He's had a tough start since he came here, injured for a long time.
"I had a similar start here, so I know how tough it is watching on from the stands. I know how delighted he'll be, first Champions League goal. Buzzing for him."
Yoane Wissa's confidence will have been given a massive boost tonight
Yoane Wissa had been getting a fair bit of flak of late (as had all of Newcastle's forwards in fairness), but there was a suggestion that Wissa was just lacking that bit of confidence after such a lengthy layoff; there was no sign of that tonight.
A goal and an assist tonight will have done him the world of good and should hopefully set him up nicely for the rest of the season.
Now, we just need to get Nick Woltemade back amongst the goals and get some confidence flowing through the side again. Tonight is a great starting point, but we have to follow it up.
