Despite having one cap for England, Harvey Barnes remains eligible to defect to Scotland, who have qualified for this year's World Cup.

It has been thought for a while that the Newcastle United winger was weighing up his options ahead of the summer, with many suspecting that the 28-year-old may switch allegiance to Scotland to play World Cup football this year.

Barnes' solo England cap came in a friendly game against Wales, which leaves him eligible to represent Scotland, as it was a non-competitive game.

However, it looks like the former Leicester City winger has rejected the chance to join the Tartan Army.

England wingers?

Harvey Barnes has turned his back on Scotland

Harvey Barnes has been one of Newcastle's most in-form players this season, and he clearly feels he's still got a chance of breaking into Thomas Tuchel's England side.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has confirmed that Barnes has rejected the overtures from Scotland, as confirmed by The Daily Mail.

‘This time I can say for sure, Harvey’s going to concentrate on trying to play for England, he’s not going to come to Scotland.

‘You can put that one out there. That’s for sure. Nobody needs to ask me or Harvey about it any more.

‘Am I disappointed? No, listen, Harvey can make up his own mind. We move on.’

England have two games in March before the World Cup squad selection

Thomas Tuchel has another round of internationals to get through in March before he makes up his mind on his World Cup squad, so there is still hope for Barnes.

Another Newcastle United man who may be hoping to play his way into Tuchel's thoughts is Lewis Miley, who has been outstanding for Newcastle this season.

We expect that Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon will get called up again next month, too.
