In the hierarchy of people whose opinions mean little to Newcastle United fans, former boss Graeme Souness is right up there.
However, he has given his two pence worth on the current Alexander Isak rumours.
There have been several reports claiming that Newcastle's record signing could push for a move in the summer if the Magpies fail to secure European football this season.
That has been countered by some outlets with Keith Downie of Sky Sports hitting the nail on the head by saying his performances have to match his ambition if he's to start angling for a move.
To give Souness his due, he touches on that too, but in a much less polite way I'd say. Writing for the Daily Mail, Souness suggested that it could make sense for Newcastle to shift Isak on in the summer.
“I listened to Eddie Howe’s press conference on Friday and he might be fighting an uphill battle to keep Alexander Isak beyond this season if Newcastle do not qualify for the Champions League.
“His value to the club is still there next summer because he will still have three years on his contract. He is 25 years old and approaching his peak. He will fancy himself as a Champions League regular, even though he didn’t look like that when missing chances in the 1-0 defeat by Brighton last week.
“Newcastle fans won’t want to hear this, but it could make sense for Newcastle to cash in while his value is at a premium, especially given the difficulties they have encountered with PSR.”
There is obviously an argument to be made for cashing in on Isak in the summer, especially if he is wanting a move. In terms of PSR it could set us up nicely to find another top striker, however, if there are better strikers out there then big clubs wouldn't be coming for Isak, would they?
It could set us back even further on our quest to be title contenders. There's a delicate balance that needs to be found when it comes to moving players on.
Hopefully the whole point will be moot come May as Newcastle qualify for the Champions League and everyone is happy.
