The draw has been made for the league phase of this season's Champions League, and Newcastle United have some big scalps to claim.

The eight games Newcastle will play, four at home and four away, have now been selected, and Newcastle fans of a certain age will get to revisit one of the greatest nights at St James' Park.

Newcastle will face Barcelona at home as well as Paris Saint-Germain away once again after the Pot 1 draw was made. The Magpies, of course, beat the current holders two years ago at home, and got absolutely ripped off at the Parc des Princes. Revenge is on the cards.

The draw from Pot two wasn't much kinder, with the Magpies being drawn against Benfica at home and Bayer Leverkusen away.

Newcastle have it about as hard as it gets - we wouldn't have it any other way, though

If you're expecting an easier time from Pot 3, then you're in for a disappointment as the Magpies will travel to France to face Marseille, while PSV will come to St James' Park.

Athletic Bilbao return to St James' Park after visiting last summer for the Sela Cup, this time with more on the line, while a trip to Belgium to face Champions League newbies Union Saint-Gilloise rounds off the draw.

It's the Champions League, so there are no easy draws, but we're not sure they could have made that one much harder for us if they tried.

The fixture schedule will be released on Saturday

The actual schedule for the fixtures will be released on Saturday, so there are a couple of days before you start making your travel arrangements to France, Germany and Belgium.

There are going to be some big nights under the lights at St James' Park with some absolute powerhouses visiting the hallowed ground.
