Newcastle United had a canny day at the office on Saturday when they beat Ipswich Town 4-0 in their own back yard.
The Magpies have been in great form lately but the last two convincing back-to-back wins had come at St James' Park, so Saturday was seen as a test to see if they could take that form on the road.
Chris Sutton and Paul Merson had both backed Newcastle to win, but only by a narrow margin with both expecting a 1-2 scoreline.
However, it now appears that Alan Shearer had far more confidence in his beloved Newcastle after making a bold prediction before the match.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Gary Lineker made a mention of 'mystic' Al who predicted that Alexander Isak would notch his first hat-trick.
“I’m going to say, just before we start, there was a bit of chat on our WhatsApp group about Alexander Isak and fantasy teams.
“And you said ‘you should, he’s going to score a hat-trick today’ and lo and behold – Mystic Al."
With Shearer adding:
“Hat-trick incoming, get ready for it!”
Shearer must have thought it wasn't going to happen when Isak passed the ball to Arijanet Muric when through one-on-one, but you can't keep a player like Isak quiet for too long and the Swede eventually completed his hat-trick.
Hopefully, that's now the floodgates open and we won't have to wait over five years for another Newcastle United hat-trick.
How can it be that Ayoze Perez was the last player to score three goals in one game for Newcastle before Isak? That's actually tragic.
