England manager Gareth Southgate was in attendance on Saturday as Newcastle literally clashed with Arsenal.

Gareth Southgate has fantastic form of ignoring Newcastle United players, but he was in the stands on Saturday as the Magpies inflicted Arsenal's first Premier League defeat.

Whether he was there to eyeball potential new call-ups, or just to watch his favourites like Bukayo Saka in action, we'll likely find out on Thursday.

In fairness, he was probably looking over England regular Kieran Trippier, although he does also fall into the favourites category, he just happens to also be in good form (Dortmund and Wolves aside).

Nick Pope and Callum Wilson could be set to be recalled

Nick Pope and Callum Wilson have missed out on the last couple of squads and could be in line for a recall, although if it was based off Saturday then Wilson won't be anywhere near the England squad.

Where's his senior England call, Gareth?

Newcastle do have two English players in banging form who deserve to be called up. One is more likely than the other.

Anthony Gordon continues to be Newcastle's player of the season, he's bagging goals and assists in almost every game and his work rate is second to none. How he hasn't been called up already we'll never know. The 'electric' winger won the Under 21s Euros in the summer and picked up Player of the Tournament, and he's only got better since then.

Newcastle have two more contenders for a spot in the England camp this month

Jamaal Lascelles is the other. An outside shot, surely, but why not? Southgate's reliance on Harry Maguire is borderline farcical a this point, but Lascelles is in the form of his life right now. There were calls for him to be picked years ago, but he's arguably even better now than he was then. It's unlikely Southgate will do it, but we can't see a good reason why not.

One more who could be in the frame is Tino Livramento. He's definitely a future England international, you can see it in him already, but he has only made a few appearances this season, and although he was exceptional in each of them, it will probably be too soon for Southgate to give him a try.

Let's see what Thursday brings and how many of our players get overlooked again.
