Fulham and Crystal Palace are now being linked with an exciting young winger who has been on Newcastle United's radar for a long time.

Newcastle could be about to be pipped to the signing of a young talent hailed as the next Hatem Ben Arfa by Fulham or current arch nemeses Crystal Palace.

The Athletic believes that Crystal Palace are interested in Lyon wonderkid Rayan Cherki, but say that Fulham have gone one further by making an offer.

Fulham's offer is believed to be around £12 million which, if accepted, could end up being an absolute steal.

Rayan Cherki could be heading to the Premier League

Newcastle looked at Rayan Cherki last year and have been credited with an interest a few times this summer, too.

The Magpies are looking for a new right-winger so it makes sense that Cherki would be mentioned, however, despite being hailed as 'exceptional' by TNT Sports, there are a few red flags that suggest that Newcastle may just let this one go.

Firstly, the Magpies will be looking for someone a little bit more experienced to run the wing than the 21-year-old Frenchman.

It's not the right time for Cherki at Newcastle

Also, while his dribbling abilities have been compared to those of Newcastle cult hero Hatem Ben Arfa, so too has his temperament.

While likely not as difficult to manage as Ben Arfa, the last thing Eddie Howe wants at Newcastle is a player who will disrupt the harmony in the dressing room.

Cherki has all the ability and potential to be a great player, but he's just not right for Newcastle this summer. That being said, there doesn't seem to be anyone else on the horizon right now, so what are we actually waiting for?
