Newcastle United announced their first summer signing this morning as they unveiled Antonio Cordero ahead of his 1st July move from Malaga.

The 18-year-old winger, while still not officially a Newcastle United player until his Malaga contract expires at the end of the month, has been the first new player announced by the club this summer.

We may not have to wait much longer for the club to announce a second new-ish signing either according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

The transfer journalist has told Geordie Boot Boys that he's being told that the Magpies have a player incoming, but you may want to temper that excitement slightly.

Fraser Forster never made a senior appearance for Newcastle United

Fraser Forster is favourite to be Newcastle United's Scott Carson

As reported yesterday, Newcastle are looking at a trio of former goalkeepers in order to have their very own Scott Carson who kept a place in Manchester City's squad for years simply to make up the 'homegrown' numbers to comply with UEFA's rules.

Fraser Forster was dentified as potential signing, and now Graeme Bailey is being told that the former Celtic and Tottenham man will return to St James' Park to fill the role.

“It looks like Fraser Forster is coming in, from what I have been told.

“They had a list of three goalkeepers they were looking at: Forster, Tim Krul and Jak Alnwick.

“I believe that Forster is the favourite to arrive.”

Fraser Forster still dreams of playing for Newcastle United

Fraser Forster came through the academy at Newcastle and was always touted as having first-team potential, but before he could break into Newcastle's first team he was snapped up by Celtic after a couple of successful loan moves.

The 37-year-old has gone on to have a good career and has lifted some silverware along the way, but he's still to realise his dream of playing for Newcastle United.

Should Forster sign for Newcastle, we don't expect him to play much, if at all, but it would be nice to give the veteran at least one first-team game to realise his dream.
