Newcastle United could yet add the right-winger they have been coveting for years as one long-term target remains without a club.

France star Adrien Rabiot has been without a club since July after his Juventus contract expired, but the World Cup finalist is not doing himself any favours while looking for a new club as his high wage demands have put off Newcastle and Manchester United.

Teams in Turkey and Saudi Arabia are said to be keen on Rabiot, but Football Insider claims that the 29-year-old wants to remain in Europe which means he may have to lower his wage demands if he wants a move to the Premier League.

Newcastle have had Rabiot in their sights for a couple of years and were looking to swoop last summer when he had a stand-off with Juventus over a new contract before eventually agreeing to another year.

Newcastle fans need convincing on Adrien Rabiot

Newcastle fans, for the most part, remain opposed to signing Rabiot citing his ridiculous wage demands and his poor attitude as big reasons to avoid making the signing.

We have to say, we're on that side of the fence too.

As a player, Rabiot has a lot to his game that Miguel Almiron doesn't, and could be way more effective going forward, but we can't see him tracking back like Miggy does, or expending half as much energy as the Paraguayan. The same goes for Jacob Murphy. We give Murphy and Miggy a hard time, but one thing we'll never knock them for is their endeavour, and we expect that whoever ultimately comes in to succeed them gives just as much for the team.

We expect Rabiot will sign for Man United

It wouldn't seem like a desperate move to bring in Rabiot given Newcastle's long-standing admiration, but it would be interesting to see how the fanbase reacts.

While we have our reservations, we imagine that the club has done their homework on him and Eddie Howe surely wouldn't entertain the idea of signing Rabiot if he didn't think he could get him to fit into the way he wants to play.

We can't imagine that Rabiot will lower his wage demands enough that Newcastle will sign him, but moneybags Manchester United could. I mean, PSR doesn't apply to them, so why not?
