Newcastle United have produced some players from their academy who looked to have the world at their feet, only for them to practically disappear.

Some have gone on to do well elsewhere. Adam Armstrong springs to mind as one that the Toon Army had backed to be a big thing for the Magpies, but ultimately went a different way. He's had a decent career with Southampton and has appeared in the Premier League several times, but never hit the heights we all expected he would.

Another player who many had backed to go on to big things was Jamaican winger Rolando Aarons.

Aaron looked to have everything Newcastle loves in a winger; he had pace, a few tricks up his sleeve and loved to bound forward.

Newcastle fans thought Rolando Aarons would become a huge player

Rolando Aarons was given plenty of time at Newcastle to prove himself and was sent out on loan to five different clubs over his time to gain the experience needed to become that big-name player, but for whatever reason, it just didn't take.

Newcastle finally gave up and sold Aaron to Huddersfield Town. They, too, would send him out on loan before moving him on to NK Celje in Slovenia, of all places.

This summer, Aaron found himself released from the Slovenian side, and as the BBC reports, the 29-year-old has found himself a new club in England with non-league Morecambe.

We were shocked to hear where Aarons has ended up

Football is a lottery at times, and even if you have all the right numbers, like it looked like Aarons had, if you don't play the game, you'll never win.

Injuries may have played a big part in things for Aarons, but honestly, we were shocked to read how far down the football pyramid he'd fallen.

Good luck, Rolando. Keep on keeping on!
