Former Newcastle United striker under pressure after being accused of 'misconduct' for not utilising Magpies winger
Former Newcastle United striker Jon Dahl Tomasson is the current manager of the Sweden national side, but after their own fans booed their players off the pitch after yesterday's 2-0 defeat to Luxembourg, his days might be numbered.
Jon Dahl Tomasson already has a difficult situation on his hands with Alexander Isak playing like he's never even seen a football before.
The Liverpool striker downed tools over the summer to force a move away from Newcastle United and join the Premier League champions, and his lack of training and match sharpness has been laid bare for all to see after a string of shocking performances.
Meanwhile, Newcastle's £55 million summer signing, Anthony Elanga, while he's not exactly set the world alight at the Toon just yet, has looked decent at least, and it was the fact that Elanga was an unused substitute yesterday that has brought Jon Dahl Tomasson's tenure as Sweden boss into sharp focus.
Swedish commentator was not happy with Jon Dahl Tomasson on Friday
Aftonbladet (via Sport Witness) covered comments from analyst Bojan Djordjic on Viaplay during the match on Friday evening, who labelled it 'misconduct' for not using Elanga.
“Tomasson has to do something now. It’s a misconduct that Elanga is still standing out there warming up.
“(These) substitutions don’t change the course of a match, especially when you need a result. In that case, it’s better to go for it and lose 2–0. Now you’ll lose 2–0 anyway and be cowardly.”
We don't mind that Anthony Elanga didn't get on the pitch
The Isak situation isn't exactly Tomasson's fault, but not putting on a player who many feel could have made a difference definitely is.
As we've said, though, Elanga hasn't hit the levels we know he's capable of either, so maybe that was on Tomasson's mind when he opted to leave him on the bench.
No international action just means less chance of injuries, so we don't mind at all.
