Former Newcastle United striker Louis Saha has his say on who could win the 2025/26 Premier League title
It still feels like a lifetime away, but the start of the new season is getting closer, and while clubs are still wheeling and dealing to strengthen their squads, pundits are already starting to speculate on who will lift the Premier League trophy next May.
It would be very difficult to predict with any real accuracy at this point. Just using Newcastle United as an example: The Magpies have only made one first-team addition so far this summer, albeit a very good one who will kick them up a level.
They are still in the market to fill three other high-priority positions, and it will all depend on if they do so as to how well their next season will go.
Of course, there's the Eddie Howe factor in that the Toon gaffer can get a good squad to over-achieve and attain excellence.
Louis Saha believes there are six title contenders next season
Former Newcastle striker Louis Saha has named six teams that he feels are title contenders next season, with Newcastle counted amongst them. We agree with five of his choices as the former Manchester United man made his prediction to BoyleSports (via The Mag).
“Arsenal have been competing with Manchester City and Liverpool so those three are in, I can see Newcastle, Chelsea and Spurs also being up there.
“Spurs won the Europa League and changed their manager, which I really don’t understand, but they have potential as do Newcastle United and I really respect what they did last year.
“I think we will see six teams fighting it out for the title, Manchester United are behind that.”
We're not sure how Tottenham ended up in Saha's prediction
Liverpool made it look easy last season, but we expect Manchester City will bounce back. Arsenal mean business too, and if they seal a deal for Viktor Gyokere,s they could be a force to be reckoned with. Also, we can't overlook Chelsea after cruising to victory in the Club World Cup final last night, and if João Pedro continues his form into the season,n they're going to be right up there.
We are less convinced by the inclusion of Tottenham in Saha's picks. Another new manager in, more instability. It's not a good recipe. We say that as big fans of Thomas Frank, too, we just think it may take a while before he gets them playing how he wants.
It pains us to say, but Manchester United could be dark horses this year. Maybe not title contenders, but they're definitely going to be in the mix for the Champions League as long as Ruben Amorim makes the changes to the playing staff he needs to - getting shot of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, who are quite disruptive forces for Amorim.
Do we genuinely think Newcastle are title contenders next season? Not really. If we didn't have the Champions League, then maybe. Of course, a couple of signings could change all of that.
We will be up in those European places again, though.
