Former Newcastle United midfielder Scott Parker looks set for a return to management following a spell out of the game.

Championship side Burnley has been without a manager since Vincent Kompany left to join Bayern Munich.

Now it looks like Parker will make the move to the Clarets in an attempt to get the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

There was talk of another former Newcastle man, Craig Bellamy taking the Burnley hot seat but it looks like Parker has beaten him to the post.

Parker had a memorable time at Newcastle

Parker joined Newcastle in 2005 and went on to make 73 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals.

He succeeded the retiring Alan Shearer as club captain when managed by Glenn Roeder.

Some fans may remember the infamous UEFA Intertoto Cup win and the plaque Parker posed with in 2007.

The former England international left at the end of the 2006/07 season, moving to West Ham United for £7million.

Parker's up-and-down managerial timeline

The 43-year-old began his managerial career at Fulham after taking over from Claudio Ranieri in February 2019. They were relegated the same season but Parker managed to guide them back to the Premier League via the playoffs.

Fulham were relegated again the following season, Parker left and joined Bournemouth on the same day.

Parker guided the Cherries back to the Premier League but was sacked following heavy defeats to Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

He joined Club Brugge in December 2022 but was sacked in March after a disastrous run of form.
