Former Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has made a triumphant return to England.

The Frenchman has rejoined Championship club Watford following his release from Ligue 1 side Nantes.

Now 34, Sissoko looks to be in the twilight of his career after spells in England and France.

Sissoko has signed a two-year deal with the aim of taking Watford back to the Premier League.

Moussa Sissoko: former Newcastle United star

Sissoko joined the Magpies from Toulouse in 2013 for a reported £1.5million and made an instant impact, bagging an assist on his debut in a 2-1 win against Aston Villa.

Sissoko was one of many French players who joined the club during that period of time.

In the 2014/15 season, he was made captain for a number of games following an injury to Fabricio Collocini

He was named captain again towards the end of the 2015/16 season while trying to fight against relegation. He would score in a 3-0 win against Swansea City but it wouldn't be enough and relegation was confirmed.

Following Newcastle's relegation, Sissoko was part of the French national side that reached the finals of Euro 2016. He opted against playing in the Championship, sealing a £30m move to Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day.

He would become a key member of the squad during his time there, helping them reach the Champions League final before giving away a controversial penalty early on in the game.

Sissoko would leave Spurs in 2021 in favour of a move to Watford where he spent a season before joining Nantes.
