Former Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren is on the unemployment line once again after his latest failed attempt at international management.

Steve McClaren had an ill-fated attempt at leading England between 2006-2007, which came to an abrupt end when the Three Lions failed to qualify for Euro 2008. A pretty amazing feat, given the players available to him at the time.

For some reason, Newcastle United turned to McClaren to guide them in 2015, and even more bizarrely, he was given a place on the board as well.

It didn't last long, however, and McClaren was sacked in March 2016, paving the way for Rafa Benitez to take over. However, even the popular Spaniard couldn't halt the slide enough to save the Magpies from relegation that year.

Steve McClaren fails once again

McClaren returned to manage Derby County and then QPR before beating another useless former Toon manager, Steve Bruce, to the highly coveted Jamaica job.

However, once again, Steve McClaren failed to get his international charges to qualify for a major tournament as Jamaica's 0-0 draw with Curacao, who beat them to the place in next year's tournament.

Curacao made history by becoming the smallest nation to qualify for the World Cup.

Steve McClaren wasted no time in handing in his resignation after his latest managerial failure

It is being reported in the Daily Mail that Steve McClaren was in tears after failing to secure qualification and he wasted no time falling on his sword, admitting it's time for a change.

"Over the last 18 months I have given everything I have to this job. Leading this team has been one of the greatest honours of my career.

'But football is a results business and tonight we have fallen short of our goal, which was to qualify from this group.

"It is the responsibility of the leader to step forward, take accountability and make decisions in the best interests of the team.

"After deep reflection and an honest assessment of where we are and where we need to go, I have decided to step down as head coach of the Jamaican national team."

Maybe it's time to just retire, Schteve.
