Steve Bruce was recently let go from his latest misadventure, having anchored Blackpool to the bottom of League One, but it's not that former Newcastle United boss who is being linked with a return to Premier League management.

As recently seen frolicking around the pool in Uber Eats adverts, it's not Sam Allardyce or Alan Pardew either, but fan-favourite Rafa Benitez, who is reportedly on standby.

The Spaniard has been out of a job since he left Celta Vigo in March last year and was recently asked when on pundit duty, if he was done with coaching.

Benitez claimed he wasn't done yet and was just waiting for the right opportunity, and now reports have suggested there could be a tempting one on the horizon.

"Sometimes to be described as ‘a legend’ is very nice, but also complicated. It is bad for a coach to be seen as retired. People still ask me, ‘Do you want to coach?’ For sure, I do, particularly in England and Europe. I do not want people to think I am finished. I am still evolving."

Rafa Benitez could be eyeing a return to the Premier League

Rafa Benitez is reportedly waiting to find out what the future holds for Ange Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest seems to have a fair bit of buyer's remorse after bringing in Ange Postecoglou to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.

Despite Ange only joining the Tricky Trees in September, his job is already in danger after no wins in seven games, and Newcastle World claims that they have Benitez in mind if they decide to wield the axe.

Benitez left Newcastle with his head held high after winning over the Toon Army, but he wasn't willing to put up with Mike Ashley's lack of ambition and walked away from the job.

Agent Rafa at Nottingham Forest could be good for Newcastle

Having Rafa back in the Premier League would certainly be welcome, and having him at Nottingham Forest could be good news for Newcastle.

The Magpies are being heavily linked with a move to bring Elliot Anderson back from Forest after being forced to part with their academy graduate for PSR reasons, and having an NUFC ally in the manager's seat there, combined with Ross Wilson in our boardroom, the man who negotiated Anderson's move to Forest, it's all coming up Newcastle.

Right now, though, it all feels like wishful thinking. We're sure that Forest will make it as difficult as possible for any side to take away their England star while he's still got plenty of years left on his contract. You'd have to imagine that Newcastle would be his preferred destination should he move, though. Hopefully.
