While Alexander Isak continues to train in San Sebastian, taking advantage of his old club's facilities away from the prying eyes of the English press and angry Newcastle United fans, the conversation about his future rumbles on.

Until there is a definitive resolution, one way or another, this topic isn't going to go away any time soon, and everybody associated with the game has their own take on the situation.

The thing is, we are all really just making educated guesses as to what is going on and who is driving the main narrative. Newcastle fans are obviously going to be conspiratorial, pointing fingers at Liverpool and greedy agents, although the player himself is now coming in for a lot of flak as the Toon Army's patience wears thin.

On the other side of things, Liverpool fans are, for the most part, getting increasingly confident about the move, and as a result, increasingly insufferable - but hey, we'd be the same.

Former Red Steve Nicol isn't sure why Liverpool are pursuing Alexander Isak

However, not everyone associated with the Merseyside Reds is ecstatic, with former Liverpool star Steve Nicol saying he's not 'dancing on the tables' about the prospect of signing Isak, telling ESPN he finds the whole thing a bit 'weird'.

“I think it’s really strange that, if tomorrow Liverpool sign Isak for £120m, I’m not going to be dancing on the table, which seems a little weird… I want a centre-back. Had Ekitike not been at Liverpool, I would be dancing on the table if you turned around tomorrow and said we’d signed Isak.

"The fact that they have Ekitike now… it kind of feels like something you don’t need, when there’s a big hole that needs to be filled, yet you could go and spend £120m on something you probably don’t need. That’s kind of weird.”

Our feeling is that things have gone too far to be salvaged

Do us a favour, then Steve, get on the blower to Arne Slot and tell him he needs a defender over a striker and then get on the horn to Isak and tell him to put his big boy pants on, get back to Newcastle and do his bloody job.

The big worry for us now is that the situation has gone too far to be salvaged. If PIF block Isak's move to Liverpool and Eddie Howe has to reintegrate him into the team, will the fans accept him back?

The reality is that even if that does happen, there's probably going to be an agreement that he can leave next year, so fans will know that we're only getting one more season out of him, and will that be enough to forgive and forget? Unlikely.
