Newcastle United failed to find a new club for forgotten midfielder Isaac Hayden before the transfer window closed in the summer.

The versatile midfielder is now stuck on Tyneside until at least January as the former Arsenal man signed a lengthy contract under Mike Ashley that doesn't expire until 2026.

Loan moves to Norwich City, Standard Liege and QPR have seen the 29-year-old keep his career going, but since failing to find a move away in the summer, Hayden hasn't played a single minute of competitive football after being left out of Newcastle's 25-man squad.

However, that's not stopped Hayden from being called up for international duty.

Isaac Hayden could be about to make his Jamaican debut

Isaac Hayden could be in line for his Jamaica debut tonight

After switching allegiance from England to Jamaica, former Newcastle boss Steve McClaren has called up Hayden to the Reggae Boyz for their upcoming matches and is set to face the USA tonight (1:00am kick-off).

It's going to be interesting to see how much of the game Hayden will be able to manage after having no real football for months.

One positive for Hayden is that he can give it his all as it's not like he's got club football to worry about.

Playing for Jamaica could put Hayden back in the shop window

These games could be crucial for Hayden as it will show clubs that he's still got what it takes to perform and he could finally find that permanent exit from Newcastle.

It's a shame seeing how far Hayden has fallen, as there was a point in his Newcastle career when he was starting to look the real deal, but injuries and new additions pushed him out.

Good luck, Isaac ... you're probably going to need it.
