It's expected to be a busy summer for Paul Mitchell and Newcastle United as the club looks to banish the memory of three uneventful transfer windows by making several signings.

PSR has limited Newcastle's spending after an initial splurge following the completion of the takeover, and while Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali followed in later windows, overall the Magpies have been much quieter in the transfer market than many had predicted, again, thanks in large part to PSR.

But after playing the waiting game and building up headroom, the Magpies are ready for a big summer.

That being said, they will not be held to ransom by clubs slapping on Newcastle tax on every player and will be looking to make smart moves.

Marc Guehi - the man loves clapping

Fabrizio Romano expects Newcastle to go back in for Marc Guehi this summer

Despite chasing Marc Guehi for way too long last summer and figures of around £70 million being bandied about, it seems Newcastle haven't been put off a year later and could return for the England man again this summer.

Marc Guehi has entered the last year of his contract, however, which gives Newcastle the upper hand in negotiations, and while the Magpies won't go as high as £70 million, Crystal Palace should expect a bid, according to Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go podcast.

"Newcastle's interest remains. So Newcastle will be in the race to sign Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window, for sure."

Can Newcastle fans move past what Crystal Palace did last year?

Newcastle fans probably had their fill of Marc Guehi last year, especially after the way Crystal Palace went on in the negotiations, but it's clear the club still see him as the ideal man to partner Sven Botman going forward.

If we can pick him up for around £40 million I'd say we're getting a good deal, but if Palace want to push Newcastle way beyond that, we need to just walk away this time and not get sucked in by their games.

It seems like we've given up on Dean Huijsen already, so Marc Guehi is probably back to number one spot for central defenders.
