Football 'expert' now claims Sandro Tonali has his sights set on leaving Newcastle United for PL rivals
When I grow up, I want to be a football 'expert'. It must be the easiest job in the world. Make stuff up and get paid for it. I could do that.
Unfortunately, I've missed the boat on that one. To be deemed an 'expert' by the likes of Football Insider, you need to have at least held a job in the sport for a while. That's about all the qualifications you need, though, as Mick Brown and Keith Wyness get away with telling Football Insider any old tripe and they print it.
It's Mr Wyness time to shine right now. The former Everton CEO, who now runs a football consultancy business (another way to make money for nothing), has claimed that Sandro Tonali has his heart set on a move to Manchester United this summer.
Keith Wyness spoke about Tonali's future on Football Insider's Inside Track podcast and provided absolutely nothing to back up his claims.
This one has a very strong whiff about it
Here's what Wyness said, and if you can spot in here anything that suggests what he's saying is anything more than pure conjecture on his part, please let me know.
“Well, we saw Tonali hit two great goals as well at the weekend in the FA Cup. Look, I do think he has got a good relationship with Eddie Howe, but I don’t think that’s going to change the fact that I do believe Tonali will be moving this summer.
“And I think Man United are still the club that I think he’s got his sights on, and they’ve got sights on him. So I’m afraid that, you know, yes, everybody’s going to be saying nice things right now, because why would you upset the apple cart at this stage in the season?
“And I do think he has a good relationship. I think Tonali is well respected by the fans. Those goals were excellent at the weekend. But still, I do think he’s going to be making that move in the summer.”
Okay, so Wyness got a couple of things right
To give credit where it's due, Wyness was right that Tonali scored two goals at the weekend in the FA Cup and that he has a good relationship with Eddie Howe, but then everything after that is just him wanting to create a story.
Do we know if Sandro Tonali will be here next season? Of course not. But I'd wager that neither does Keith Wyness.
He and Mick Brown need to disappear into the shadows and stop spreading absolute horseradish.
