Former Newcastle United flop Joselu has waited until he hit his thirties to peak after being selected for his Spain debut at 32 and securing a move back to Real Madrid shortly after.

Nobody could have predicted the career trajectory of Joselu since Newcastle sold him to Alaves for £2.5million in 2019.

The Spanish striker managed just seven goals in 52 appearances for Newcastle since Rafa Benitez brought him in from Stoke City. Newcastle fans could not fathom what it was that Rafa saw in him as he struggled for any kind of form at Newcastle.

However, nobody is questioning Rafa Benitez' judgement now that the striker is banging in goals for Real Madrid and Spain with him currently sitting on five goals and two assists from nine La Liga games this term.

He has now made his way onto the cover of renowned Spanish publication, https://www.marca.com/.

In his interview with the paper (via Sports Witness) Joselu reflects on his career admitting there were some not-so-great times (definitely Newcastle) but he wouldn't change a thing as it all led to where he is now.

“I have had a career with many good moments and also bad ones. But I wouldn’t change a single step I’ve taken for anything in the world.

I have enjoyed everything and it has helped me be the footballer and person that I am. Of course, there are times when you can choose other paths because things weren’t going well, but those decisions I made are what have led me to be here."

Joselu was a weird one because he was absolutely gash for Newcastle, there's no doubt about it, but he always gave his all in every game making it impossible to not like him. He was a true underdog and as poor as he was for us, we always had hope that he'd come good because he just seems like the kind of guy who deserves good things.

Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be while at the Toon, but he's reaping those karmic rewards right now and we couldn't be happier for the lad.
