FC Porto make first move for Swedish wunderkind once linked with move to Newcastle United

Clearly, the higher-ups at FC Porto are avid readers of NUFC Feed, as they have stolen our idea.

Last week, we reported on the story that Swedish wunderkind Roony Bardghji's contract was due to expire with FC Copenhagen at the end of this year, leaving the 19-year-old Sweden star able to find a new club.

Newcastle United were keen on Bardghji before his ACL injury hampered his career, but the Magpies have still kept tabs on the winger's development, and we expected that Newcastle would be one of the many clubs who'd be rubbing their hands together at the prospect of picking up the 'Swedish Messi' for free.

However, we suggested that if Newcastle do have a genuine interest in the youngster, they could offer Copenhagen a fee in this window so they don't lose their star man for free, and we get a jump on the hordes of other clubs likely to be watching his situation.

FC Porto have made the first move in the race for Roony Bardghji

FC Porto have clearly had the same idea as Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that they have made an approach to Copenhagen to buy the winger this summer.

"EXCL: FC Porto submit official bid to Copenhagen for 19-year-old talented winger Roony Bardghji.

"Deal not advanced yet as there are several clubs around Europe keen on Bardghji with current contract due to expire in December."

Will Newcastle get involved in the inevitable transfer scramble?

Porto may have just activated one of the biggest transfer scrambles of the summer if other clubs have deemed him to be a risk worth taking.

An ACL injury isn't the career death sentence it once was, however, Bardghji has only made six appearances since recovering from his injury, and some clubs may feel it's too soon to make a full assessment.

We're not expecting Newcastle to get involved in this transfer tussle, unfortunately, but we remain hopeful that we do as he seems like such a promising player who plays on the right wing, a position we are woefully short on cover.
