Fabrizio Romano shares devastating injury update on Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes
Eddie Howe couldn't give much of an update on Bruno Guimaraes hamstring injury on Friday morning in his pre-match press conference.
The Newcastle United gaffer didn't seem to think the injury Bruno picked up in the win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night was a serious one, but did concede that Saturday's game away at Aston Villa would come too soon for the Brazilian midfielder.
Bruno Guimaraes limped off the field late on in the game on Tuesday night, just a few minutes after signalling to the bench he needed to come off and then changing his mind.
Eddie Howe was hopeful after the game that it was just cramp, but on Friday, Howe said that Bruno was having further tests done to be sure.
Bruno Guimaraes could be out for eight weeks
ESPN Brazil are now reporting that Bruno Guimaraes has a 'serious muscle injury' as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
It's expected that Bruno will be absent for six to eight weeks, as a result which is bad news for Newcastle.
"🚨⚠️ Bruno Guimarães suffers serious muscle injury and will be out for several weeks, as @ESPNBrasil reports.
"Newcastle midfielder to travel soon to Brazil but expected to be out for 8/10 weeks.
"Bruno, expected to miss Seleçao next games in March ahead of World Cup."
Newcastle are going to have to play a lot of games without Bruno Guimaraes
Newcastle's inability to win games in which Bruno Guimaraes is not involved is now a huge concern, given the sheer number of games the Magpies still have to play in the next couple of months.
If this injury puts Bruno out of action until mid-April, that's potentially 12 games he will miss in all competitions. More if we somehow manage to progress in the FA Cup and Champions League.
Of course, progression in those competitions would require us to win games without Bruno's assistance, and that's the big issue here. If we can find a way to win without him, then there's still hope for the season, if not, well, brace yourself.
