Newcastle United have long held an interest in AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori and at one point were deemed to be frontrunners to sign the England international.

The story of Newcastle United and Fikayo Tomori is a strange one with the Magpies having been watching the former Chelsea man for a while now.

Rumours really heated up in the summer when Newcastle were said to be looking at Tomori and his Milan teammate Malick Thiaw.

Tomori reportedly dismissed talk of a move to Newcastle seeing it as a backward step in his career.

Fikayo Tomori's story takes another twist

Newcastle United may have hit a setback in their pursuit of Fikayo Tomori

Tomori then fell out of favour with manager Paulo Fonseca and rumours about the former England man wanting a return home started to swirl with Newcastle said to be his most likely destination.

Tottenham Hotspur have now joined the race for Tomori with their defence decimated through injury this season.

However, there has been a big change at Milan that could dash the Premier League duo's hopes as Fonseca is out and Sergio Conceicao is in, which could be good news for Tomori.

Fabrizio Romano believes Tomori's story has taken another twist

While it has been reported that Tomori would be available in January, the hope of regaining his place could change his mind which is why transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has issued 'no update' update via GiveMeSport.

“No news on this so far. Tomori’s future depends on Sergio Conceicao now, as he was not a key player under former manager Paulo Fonseca.

“Let’s see what Milan decide to do now with their new manager.”
