Newcastle United have a firm interest in Bournemouth's young Spanish defender Dean Huijsen and are expected to be among the clubs making a move for the 19-year-old in the summer.

Dean Huijsen caught the eye of several clubs last season playing for AS Roma on loan from Juventus. When it became clear that Juventus were willing to sell the promising teenager, Newcastle showed an interest, but ultimately decided against a move, instead focusing their efforts on Marc Guehi.

Bournemouth wasted no time and swooped in, picking up Huijsen for a bargain £12.8 milllion while Newcastle ended up missing out on him and Marc Guehi.

However, Bournemouth are now resigned to the fact that they are likely to lose the Dutch-born centre-back in the summer after an impressive first season in the Premier League.

Newcastle United must secure Champions League football to stand a chance of signing Dean Huijsen

A £50 million release clause in Huijsen's Bournemouth contract leaves him wide open to being taken away from Bournemouth, and while clubs are likely to try and negotiate the fee, Huijsen's potential makes him worth a £50 million punt so someone is likely to trigger his clause.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has been talking about Huijsen on his YouTube channel where he acknowledges Newcastle's interest, but he does say that the Magpies would have to secure Champions League football to stand a chance.

However, Champions League football may not be Newcastle's biggest hurdle as Huijsen has already dropped huge hints over where he'd love to play next, and they could be keen on a bid.

Fabrizio Romano believes Real Madrid would be frontrunners for Dean Huijsen

Fabrizio Romano believes Dean Huijsen has his eyes on Real Madrid, and while the Spanish giants are yet to firm up their transfer plans, Huijsen remains a possibility.

“Real Madrid have to decide internally what they want to do for centre-backs but they appreciate the player, they appreciate Dean Huijsen.

“No decision yet on what [Real Madrid] want to do in terms of centre-backs. What I wanted to add on Dean Huijsen and Real Madrid is that in the days while he was with Spain, Dean in some interviews said that ‘I would be proud about Real Madrid. I feel proud when I see all the reports about Real Madrid’.

“He's not lying. Dean Huijsen is really, really happy when the links about Real Madrid come up because he believes that Real Madrid is a fantastic football club, is one of the biggest clubs in the world. So the ambition for Dean Huijsen is really to reach that level and so Real Madrid is absolutely part of the clubs he would love to join.”
