It seems that Crystal Palace are stepping up their efforts to sign a couple of centre-backs with reports of bids for Maxence Lacroix and now Tomas Araujo.
Last night it was claimed that Crystal Palace and Fulham had come to an agreement over the sale of Joachim Andersen which had Newcastle United fans wondering if that would put an end to the Marc Guehi saga.
Keith Downie quickly said that one would not affect the other and that Newcastle and Palace were still in negotiations over the 24-year-old England centre-back.
We were already aware of Crystal Palace's interest in Maxence Lacroix as boss Oliver Glasner looks for a reunion with the Wolfsburg defender.
A post from Fabrizio Romano today has suggested that a bid has gone in for Lacroix for around £12 million which is likely to be accepted with Lacroix having just one year remaining on his contract.
Now, a few hours later, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Palace are looking at Tomas Araujo from Benfica although he does stress that no agreement has been reached there,
However, it does suggest that Palace are trying to bring in two centre-backs which could be a good indication that the deal for Guehi is close.
If Crystal Palace are going to make Newcastle wait until they sign a replacement, that could be an issue for Newcastle whose patience is wearing thin.
The Magpies are expected to walk away from the deal if there's no agreement by the weekend.
However, things are looking slightly more positive than they were earlier. Still, though, can we just end the misery, please? We all want, nay, need a definitive answer now.
