Ex-Newcastle United striker now set to replace forward heavily linked with move to Tyneside in summer in transfer merry-go-round
There's not a lot new to report on transfer deadline day directly involving Newcastle United, so let's look a bit wider for some Newcastle-ish-related stories.
When this article goes live, there'll be less than two hours left of the January transfer window, and Newcastle United will have achieved absolutely nothing (or will they?) other than seeing a host of youngsters leave the club and Jamaal Lascelles moving to Leicester City. Riveting stuff!
Taking a look elsewhere, there's been a Toon reunion in Greece as Panathinaikos boss Rafa Benitez has brought in Moussa Sissoko from Watford.
The pair worked together at Newcastle when Benitez was unable to halt the Toon's slide into the Championship following Steve McLaren's mess. Sissoko left the club that summer. Now 36, Sissoko is heading to Greece.
Crystal Palace have taken a £48 million punt on Jorgen Strand Larsen
Elsewhere, Crystal Palace, who are falling apart like a wet cake, are signing Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves.
The Norwegian striker was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle in the summer for around £55 million before the Yoane Wissa deal was eventually done.
Strand Larsen's form this season has made many Newcastle fans feel that we dodged a bullet by not being able to get that deal done, and now Crystal Palace will be hoping they can get him to rediscover the form that had so many clubs keen in the summer.
Wolves have moved to sign Adam Armstrong from Southampton
Wolverhampton Wanderers haven't wasted any time finding a replacement for Strand Larsen and have raided Southampton for former Magpie Adam Armstrong.
Still only 28, Armstrong feels like he's been around forever after being named as a one to watch in Newcastle's academy as a teenager.
It never happened for him at Newcastle. He has shown moments of brilliance at Southampton, but seems to be more suited for the Championship, so it's going to be interesting to see what he can do for Wolves.
