Newcastle United remain in the race for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana as the Toffees reveal their asking price for the Belgian.
The Magpies are one of a few clubs currently keeping tabs on the 22-year-old currently plying his trade at relegation-threatened Everton. As we said yesterday, Newcastle's midfield already looks pretty crowded, so we're expecting that some players could be on their way out of St James' Park this summer given that we're constantly being linked with midfielders.
If there's one area we're short on in the middle of the park, it's defensive midfielders which is where Onana is the most comfortable. Therefore we don't feel this would be a case of one-in-one-out which would gives us hope that Joelinton's contract talks could still yield a positive outcome.
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Amadou Onana will be allowed to leave Everton this summer if a bid of €60million (£51million) is received.
Onana has been a bright spot in Everton's rollercoaster season and it looks like The Toffees know they will struggle to keep hold of him regardless of whether or not they manage to beat the drop again this season.
Newcastle will face some big competition for Onana with Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal all interested in acquiring his services.
It's now thought that Man United, after failing with an attempt to land Onana in January, may now be looking elsewhere, but that still leaves Arsenal and Barcelona, however the latter will refuse to pay the €60million.
We could convince Onana that his future would be best served at Newcastle by offering him more guaranteed minutes than he would be likely to get at Arsenal, however, to fit in a defensive midfielder and keeping our current stars happy, Eddie Howe would definitely have to look to a change in system.
Onana would be a quality signing for Newcastle and it would also be a massive statement if we could pick him up ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona, and we will need to make a statement this summer after losing Dan Ashworth.
