Tino Livramento had to be stretchered off the pitch on Sunday after a clumsy challenge by William Saliba during the intense match between Newcastle United and Arsenal.

At first, it had looked as though Livramento had landed awkwardly after challenging Saliba in the air.

However, replays showed that the Arsenal defender had clattered Livramento's knee. It was clumsy rather than malicious, but you could see by the way Tino landed that he knew instantly something was wrong as he spun to make sure he landed with his other leg first.

Having just recovered from an ACL injury not long before joining Newcastle United, the atmosphere was tense as he was stretchered off holding his knee.

Newcastle are waiting for a second opinion on Tino Livramento's knee injury

Eddie Howe spoke to the media today (via The Chronicle) ahead of tomorrow's Champions League clash with Union Saint-Gilloise, and the Toon gaffer would not give an update on Tino's injury despite him having already had a scan.

“I’m better off waiting before giving any indication on that because that could be a mistake. Let’s wait and see in the next couple of days.”

Sky Sports' Keith Downie elaborated by saying that the club are seeking a second opinion as the swelling hasn't gone down.

Tino Livramento is going to be a huge miss for Newcastle

Right now, the news doesn't sound great, and it looks like we could be in for a long wait before seeing the England star back on the pitch for the Magpies.

What's more annoying is that Lewis Hall is close to a full return from injury just as this happened, so we've still got to wait to see what our future back four is going to look like.

Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman are working very well together, and seeing them flanked by Hall and Livramento is the next clear step.
