Several Newcastle United players are nearing the end of their contracts this summer

The Magpies are eyeing a big clear out in the summer to alleviate the lingering PSR woes that have plagued the club over the last 12 months.

Apart from making Lewis Hall's loan deal permanent, Newcastle have failed to sign a first team player since the 2023 summer transfer window.

Many players from the Mike Ashley era still remain at the club, some players still have over a year left on their current deals which is something Toon boss Eddie Howe will need to tackle eventually.

But Howe is keen to keep one of these players on the books for another year.

Eddie Howe wants to give Fabian Schar a new contract

Schar recently celebrated his 200th appearance for Newcastle, he took to social media to say "I could never have imagined to play 200 games for this incredible football club @NUFC!

"Proud to put on the black and white stripes every week and play in front of your all... here's to many more."

Schar has been an integral part of Howe's side after struggling under Steve Bruce.

On Schar, Howe recently told press: "With Fabian, just speaking from my behalf, he's been incredible for me,”

“I have to say he has been absolutely sensational with some of the performances he's delivered.

“He's an integral part of what we're doing. His use of the ball is well known, his technical qualities and defensively he's been very strong for us. Yes, he's an important player and we'd love to keep him.”

Which Newcastle United players' contracts are running out in 2025?

Including Schar, there are eight players whose contracts are running out next summer.

Regular first team player Sean Longstaff is one of the players who could leave alongside Callum Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles, Emil Krafth along with goalkeepers Martin Dubravka, Mark Gillespie and John Ruddy.

Lascelles and Krafth are currently on the side lines due to injury while Dubravka looks set for a move abroad in the near future.

On his future, Schar told BlueSport: "I feel really comfortable at Newcastle, I've been playing for years and I have a coach who relies on me.

"Everything is right for me.

“I would love to stay. The club and the coach know what they have in me. Basically, things have always gone relatively quickly in recent years.

"The club wanted to keep me, I wanted to stay. That’s why it was never a big deal.”

As it stands, Schar is yet to sign a new deal with Newcastle.
