Eddie Howe tells £40m summer signing what he needs to do to break into starting XI
Despite enduring a tough summer thanks to a certain somebody, Newcastle United fans were ultimately quite happy with the transfer window in the end.
Every position that needed additions received them, and there were even some added bonuses with a second striker being signed and the arrival of Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa for £40 million.
Ramsey was likely brought in as a response to letting Sean Longstaff leave for Leeds United and is certainly seen as an upgrade on the academy graduate.
However, Ramsey has only managed 142 minutes for the Toon so far this season through a combination of picking up an injury and, of course, having to break into one of the best midfield trios in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe feels Jacob Ramsey just needs to stay fit, and the rest will follow
We expect that Ramsey will start tomorrow's game against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, and Eddie Howe shared what he needs to do to keep his place in the team during his press conference on Tuesday morning.
"I think Jacob is doing well, I think he's in a good place. I think he'll have benefited from the couple of outings he's had recently.
"The big thing for him at the moment is being physically at his best. If he is, then his technical qualities will shine."
Jacob Ramsey has the talent to nail down a place in Newcastle's starting lineup
Injuries have played a big part in Ramsey's career so far with the 24-year-old having flirted with the England setup while at Aston Villa but injuries halted his progress.
Despite that, though, it's still thought that Newcastle got an absolute bargain at £40 million, and if Ramsey can stay fit he could really trouble Joelinton for his starting place in the Newcastle midfield.
He's a different type of player to the Brazilian, and that may disrupt the balance of that midfield trio of Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, but if Ramsey can carve out a niche for himself to add a different flavour to the midfield, he could force his way into the side, he has the ability to do so.
