Eddie Howe says what surprised him about Jacob Ramsey after midfielder arrived at Newcastle United
Eddie Howe faced the media this morning ahead of Newcastle United's game against Liverpool on Monday night - Kick-off is 8pm live on Sky Sports.
The Newcastle boss faced a relentless barrage of questions regarding Alexander Isak, with Monday's game being brought up maybe twice in the 30-minute briefing.
Another non-Isak-related question was whether or not Jacob Ramsey has brought anything to the group that surprised Eddie Howe.
Howe has been tracking Ramsey for a while and has obviously seen him in games when Newcastle have come up against Aston Villa, but he was asked if there was anything his extensive research missed.
Eddie Howe was shocked at how big Jacob Ramsey is
Ramsey has been training with Newcastle for a week now and is in contention for a spot in Eddie Howe's squad on Monday night, but as for any hidden surprises, Eddie Howe was adamant his research caught everything, but one thing did surprise him.
"He is bigger than I thought. When you see him on the pitch, you think you know. It was the same with Tino Livramento. He says he's 6'1". I say he's 6'2" because I need him to challenge more in the air."
Is Eddie Howe going to install a rack in the next Benton upgrade?
Jacob Ramsey is likely to make his Newcastle United debut on Monday night
Howe also answered whether Jacob Ramsey would be involved on Monday.
"He'll be available. We've still got training sessions to go before the game, but he's in a good place and has looked really impressive. Really, really good technically, very intelligent, and I think he'll add a lot to the team. He has standout qualities.
We'd be shocked if he starts on Monday, unless there's an injury to the main trio between now and Monday, but we expect we'll see him make his debut at some point in the proceedings.
