Eddie Howe says one Newcastle United player played himself into the 'forefront' of his thoughts last night
Newcastle United scored as many goals last night against Bradford as they had in the entire season before that game by beating the League One side 4-1 in the Carabao Cup.
It was a night where Newcastle had 27 shots, albeit only 11 were on target, but it was a huge step in the right direction for Eddie Howe's men.
A brace each for Will Osula and Joelinton settled the tie, while lifelong Newcastle fan Andy Cook netted the consolation for Bradford just like he'd been dreaming about.
The aim now is to build on this attacking display and take it into the Premier League, especially with Arsenal heading to St James' Park on Sunday.
Eddie Howe was very impressed with Will Osula last night
After bagging two goals last night, Will Osula has given Eddie Howe something to think about for his team selection on Sunday, telling Sky Sports after the game that Osula's done his chances of first-team action no harm with his display last night.
"He's done himself no harm today. That will have done him the world of good on so many different levels.
"As a striker, you need to have that feeling. This was an opportunity he needed to grab and he did. It's the same for any player, so he puts himself very much in the forefront of my thoughts."
Nick Woltemade and Will Osula shared the pitch last night, and it looked good
Nick Woltemade came on with 20 minutes to go last night with Osula moving out to the right wing, where he continued to look impressive, even picking up his second goal from that position.
Woltemade's link-up play in and around the box was amazing, and perhaps a sign that maybe the way forward with Woltemade is that he has another striker alongside him.
We're sure that the formula will be discovered as the season goes on, but for now, it's about taking that positive attacking play from last night and applying it to a team like Arsenal.
