Eddie Howe has named a much-changed starting XI as Newcastle United get ready to take on Bromley at St James' Park in the FA Cup third round. Kick-off is at 3pm live on BBC iPlayer or via the red button.

We were expecting wholesale changes from the XI that defeated Arsenal on Tuesday night, but Eddie Howe has taken a slightly more reserved approach, with just nine.

Martin Dubravka keeps his place between the posts despite strong rumours that Odysseas Vlachodimos would start. But if that doesn't tell you everything about Eddie Howe's lack of interest in Vlachodimos then I don't know what will.

Additionally, Joelinton keeps his place in the side. I guess you just don't drop Joey. We can get behind that line of thinking.

We weren't too far away

Matt Targett, Lewis Miley and Sean Longstaff have been given the nod this afternoon

Other than those two, it's all change as Kieran Trippier comes in to captain the side as we expected, while there are still other big players in the lineup with plenty of experience.

Matt Targett gets his first start at the back in a defence that sees Fabian Schar return after missing the last two games due to suspension.

Lewis Miley and Sean Longstaff join Joelinton in the middle of the park.

Trevan Sanusi has been brought up to sit on the bench today

Up front, Will Osula gets a chance to shine and with no Alexander Isak on the bench, he's likely to get a full 90 minutes, unless things are going drastically wrong and Eddie Howe can call upon Anthony Gordon.

Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Dan Burn, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento are also on the bench just in case, and talented youngster Trevan Sanusi is also given a spot on the bench.

We really hope we get to see Sanusi at some point this afternoon after his impressive pre-season.

HOWAY THE LADS!
