There is a small chance that Newcastle United may have to start thinking about a replacement for Eddie Howe should the call of The FA prove too much to resist.

Eddie Howe is one of the favourites for the vacant England manager role after Gareth Southgate ended his eight-year tenure as national manager.

Howe has cleverly used recent interviews to leverage the threat of the England job to ensure that he retains the control and respect he demands at Newcastle in the wake of comprehensive changes behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, in doing that, the language he used to do so has been left wide open to interpretation giving media vultures plenty of scope to spin a yarn that Howe isn't happy and could push for the England job.

Will we soon be seeing this happy, smiling face on the bench at St James' Park?

The Mirror have been very lazy with their latest Eddie Howe theory

We're not saying it 100% won't happen, but we do feel that people are looking for those words in order to twist the narrative to how they want - I mean, that's what we're doing too we're just choosing to look at the positive side of things.

For the sake of argument let's say that Eddie Howe does take up the England role, Newcastle would have to find a new manager to take over, but it's okay, The Mirror have it sorted.

Paul Mitchell is going to hire us a new gaffer, you know, because it's his call to make as sporting director and not Darren Eales' job as CEO, or Jamie Reuben or Yasir Al-Rumayyan's job as owners.

Mauricio Pochettino for Newcastle because he's worked with Paul Mitchell twice

Who will Mitchell be bringing in? Well, Mauricio Pochettino of course. Why? Because they've worked together twice before.

Look, it's not beyond the realms of possibility. Poch has been on Newcastle's radar for a long time and is bound to be a candidate should Howe leave, but it's just too easy to make this link because Mitchell and Poch have worked together at Southampton and Tottenham.

Can we wait to see how the Eddie Howe situation plays out first, before hiring new managers based on their career history?
