Eddie Howe reaffirms 100% commitment to Newcastle United amid talk linking him with vacant Manchester United role
As is often the case when a 'top' job becomes available, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe invariably finds himself linked with it by the media.
When Enzo Marseca walked away from Chelsea, Eddie Howe's name was in the frame, and the same has happened again now that Manchester United have parted ways with Ruben Amorim.
The other job that Eddie Howe is always linked with is, of course, the England job, and while that one does seem like an inevitability one day, the Newcastle boss ruled himself out of the running early on before Thomas Tuchel was appointed.
At the time, Eddie Howe spoke of being fully committed to Newcastle United, and that hasn't changed, even with the Manchester United links swirling around.
Eddie Howe isn't concerning himself with rumours about his future
Howe was asked about the rumours this morning in his press conference ahead of tomorrow night's clash with Leeds United at St James' Park, and Howe declared that nothing has changed.
"Yes, absolutely. Nothing has changed from my perspective. I'm 100 per cent here, working as hard as I can, head down, ignoring all the stuff that you guys write, good or bad, because it's irrelevant.
"It's about today's work and trying to prepare the team as well as we can for Leeds, so that will never change from my perspective, my commitment to my work and my job.
"As long as I'm happy and able to express myself in the best way that I can to help the team, nothing will change."
Eddie Howe has no plans to go anywhere else
Howe was then asked if there is anything that could tempt him away from the Toon, and it sounds like things behind the scenes are finally in a good place for Howe.
"No, not at this current time. The most important thing for me is happiness in the role, happiness in the job. The relationships I have with the people around me.
"Now, that’s not always been consistently good and things can change at any football club. But, at the moment, I am very happy. We have made some great appointments in the roles we needed to fill and as long as I can express myself in the best way possible, the best version of myself to help the players and the club (I’ll stay).
"Because ultimately, for any club to be successful, there has to be unity from top to bottom and a good feeling between everybody. I’ve had an unbelievable relationship with the board here since I’ve come to the football club and that’s never changed.
"I consider myself very lucky to have that because there are very few managers that have the time to build those relationships and to have the confidence and trust within each other. I think that is really important and if you have all those things, you have a higher chance of being successful.
"There is no guarantee, but you have a higher chance if those relationships are working. I’m very happy and I hope that continues for a long time."
Eddie Howe is still the right man for the job in our opinion
So it looks like the 'Howe Out' brigade is going to have to put up with him for a while longer, at least.
We still stand by our belief that he is the right man for the job. There aren't any managers out there who are better that would come to Newcastle because they're already in jobs at more prestigious clubs.
As well as that, we don't believe this myth that he has taken us as far as he is capable. We feel he's still got more to give, and knowing that he's happy here and determined makes him perfect for the role. It seems like it's more than just a job for him.
