Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe faced a barrage of transfer-related questions in his pre-match presser on Friday morning.
Eddie Howe takes his side to Bournemouth for a Sunday afternoon game this weekend. Kick-off is at 2pm live on Sky Sports.
However, with a week to go until the transfer window closes, that was the main focus for the assembled media at Benton this morning.
Newcastle are still trying to find an agreement with Crystal Palace over Marc Guehi and also have a couple of other positions they need to strengthen as well as plenty of players who need to be moved on.
Howe called this the must frustrating transfer window he's ever endured citing the PSR issues in June and now how long deals are taking to get over the line. And when asked whether there'd be any new faces before next week's deadline, Howe said there are no guarantees. Later going on to say that he'd have hoped to have had his squad finalised by this point.
"There's no guarantee. We will try. We will try until the last second to come out of the window with a better squad.
"If you asked any manager sat in my seat, the aim would always be to improve your squad every window. Whether it's one difference maker or two or three really good players that take your team on, you would always want that.
"We would want them as early as possible so you can mould them to your principles and style of play, but you have to deal with the market that's in front of you. You can't do anything other than trying to get the best out of the group of players that you have and that's what we're trying to do.
"We are still active in the market. We're trying to improve the squad and we've still got a bit of time."
There have been rumblings that a positive outcome is likely in the Marc Guehi pursuit and it could be fairly imminent which it will certainly need to be if the rumours that Newcastle have placed a ticking clock on the deal are true.
It is believed that if there is no progress made this weekend then the Magpies will move on to other targets, so they are cutting it fine.
It's going to be a busy seven days for Paul Mitchell and his team as they look to get the players in that Eddie wants.
