Eddie Howe gives vital Newcastle United injury update ahead of Champions League clash with Marseille
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has a few concerns heading into Tuesday night's Champions League clash with Marseille.
There were a couple of notable absentees on Saturday as Newcastle United beat Manchester City, with Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon both missing from the squad.
Tino Livramento was asked to play the full game on Saturday in Trippier's absence despite just returning from a seven-week layoff.
Lewis Hall was also drafted in to replace Dan Burn, who was suspended, and as well as Hall did, after such a long recovery, there's a feeling that it may be too soon to ask him to play two big games in quick succession.
Eddie Howe is cautious about starting Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall again so soon
In his press conference on Monday, Howe spoke about how they will have to monitor Hall and Livramento, but he also confirmed that Kieran Trippier hasn't travelled to France and won't be involved, which could force him to play Tino Livramento, unless he's comfortable relying on Emil Krafth.
Anthony Gordon has travelled with the squad, but that's not a guarantee of his involvement in the starting lineup. Newcastle's Champions League squad is already light and Gordon could just be there to make up the numbers.
It would probably seem quite harsh on Harvey Barnes if he lost his place to Gordon after scoring both goals on Saturday.
Kieran Trippier could be out of action for weeks
Howe said he plans to have a training session on the Marseille pitch tomorrow, so he'll have one more chance to assess his squad ahead of making his final selection.
We really hope that Hall and Livramento are feeling good enough to start again, as they bring something extra to Newcastle that has been missing for so long this season.
With Trippier staying behind, we hope he's getting fully assessed to ascertain how long he's going to be out for, as Howe wasn't able to give any indication on Monday after suggesting he could be out for weeks on Saturday.
