Eddie Howe gives update on Joelinton after midfielder picked up groin injury in defeat to Aston Villa
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe met the media this afternoon ahead of the Champions League showdown with PSG in Paris tomorrow night.
The conference kicked off with a question around Joelinton and the severity of the Brazilian's injury.
Joelinton went down early in the second half against Aston Villa on Sunday. It wasn't under a challenge or anything, so you knew it was something serious.
While being treated, Joey was pointing at his groin area, which Howe confirmed after the game was where the trouble was.
Joelinton is expected to be out for a few weeks
Eddie Howe has now confirmed that Joelinton has had a scan on the injury, and while it isn't serious, he's going to be missing for a while.
"He's had a scan, not a bad injury but out for a few weeks."
It's never a good time to lose someone like Joelinton, but given that he had just rediscovered his form after a slow start to the season, this is a major blow.
Newcastle could be without their Brazilian contingent tomorrow
Bruno Guimaraes will undergo a late fitness test ahead of the game tomorrow, which means the Magpies are still within a shout of being without their skipper for what will be a huge game.
We expect that Bruno will be involved, but whether he can last the full 90 is another story. We'll just have to hope that Sandro Tonali's rise to form continues so he can cover all the ground that Bruno can't.
It makes Eddie Howe's team selection a bit of a mystery, particularly with regards to Lewis Miley, who would maybe have dropped back into the right-back position to give Kieran Trippier a rest had Eddie Howe had his full midfield available. We'll have a crack at that later.
